Analytica China 2008

Analytica China 2008 opens from 23–25 September 2008. International key players in the analysis, laboratory technology and biotechnology sector will be at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC). This year the event is being held in tandem with IFAT China, the International Trade Fair for Water, Sewage, Refuse and Recycling, China. Analytica China addresses the rapidly growing Chinese market for laboratory technology on an annual basis. This combination creates a comprehensive range of solutions and systems for Chinese users and decision-makers in the water and refuse sectors.

The lecture sessions will cover all aspects of the analysis sector and demonstrate the latest developments and potential applications in the fields of chemistry, pharmaceuticals, medicine, nutrition and the environment. The Analytica China Conference, which is being organized by the Chinese Chemical Society (CCS), will have an emphasis on biotechnology and bioanalysis, reflecting the growing significance of biotechnology and the life sciences in China (http://www.ccs.ac.cn/).

The Sino-German Symposium is also being held in conjunction with Analytica China in 2008. Held in Germany and China on an alternating basis, the annual symposium is making a stop at the SNIEC in Shanghai at this year's event. This first-rate event will give prominent German and Chinese scientists a chance to speak about the latest developments related to the field of chromatography in science and research (http://www.sinogermanscience.org.cn/cn/12.htm).

"The combination of Analytica China and IFAT China creates a great deal of added value for the exhibitors and visitors at both events. The exhibits at Analytica China include the environmental-analysis equipment and solutions that are used in the water and recycling systems on display at IFAT China," explains Kurt Schraudy, head of the business unit for new technologies at Munich International Trade Fairs and managing director of IMAG. The event is a spin-off of the Analytica Trade Fair in Munich, it gives international suppliers a platform for contacting decision-makers and users in industrial and scientific laboratories and for tapping this important sales market.

Demand for high-tech analysis equipment and laboratory technology in China is very high. Total market volume in this sector is $20.9 billion; the Chinese market for laboratory technology was worth $1.7 billion in 2005. The import rate for analysis instruments has been estimated at 70–90%.

The development of Sino-German trade relations reflects the growing importance of the Chinese market: in 2006, exports from Germany to China increased by 16.24% to €337.6 million. German imports of goods from China saw an enormous increase of 68.6% to €127.3 million. In an international comparison, China is now ranked in 5th place in both imports and exports.

APCE 2008 — the 8th Asia-Pacific International Symposium on Microscale Separation and Analysis

APCE 2008 takes place in the International Conference Hall of the National Science and Technology Museum in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The event provides a forum for novel approaches in separation, detection and sample preparation with an emphasis on capillary and microchip-based separations and analysis in environmental, pharmaceutical and biomedical (proteomic, genomic and metabolomic) applications, as well as biotechnology and micro/nanotechnology applications. Attendees from governmental and industrial research institutes and academia are invited to participate in the technical programme, which will include plenary, keynote and invited lectures, contributed oral presentations and poster presentations.
