Thermo Fisher Scientific (California, USA) will invest $1 million in The Pittsburgh Promise Scholarship Fund (Pennsylvania, USA).  The Pittsburgh Promise is the largest promise programme in the United States, providing scholarships for selected Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania, USA) public school students. High-achieving students hoping to complete STEM-related (science, technology, engineering and math) education in the pursuit of a scientific career are selected for the award.

A designated scholarship fund will be created called the Thermo Fisher Scientific Scholars of The Pittsburgh Promise. The fund will support five students annually, with financial backing and mentoring from Thermo through to the completion of their studies.

"Supporting science education from high school, through college and on to a career is a priority for our country, our education system and our company," said Marc N. Casper, President and Chief Executive Officer of Thermo Fisher Scientific. "We are pleased to support The Pittsburgh Promise's mission of promoting educational achievement and providing opportunities for hardworking students to pursue their dreams."
