This Tuesday morning oral session will be presided over by Elizabeth Harris, of Mankind Corporation (Valencia, California).
The first presentation in this session will be from Lipika Basumallick, of Thermo Fisher Scientific (Waltham, Massachusetts) whose talk is titled “Ion Chromatography Assays for Ions in Adenosine – Possible Replacement for Color-Based Assays.” Basumallick will discuss the development of ion chromatography assays for ammonia, and for chloride and sulfate that meet the requirements of the adenosine monograph.
The next presentation in the session is titled “Determination of Morpholine in Linezolid by Ion Chromatography” and will be delivered by Yongjing Chen, of Thermo Fisher Scientific. Chen will discuss the need for a sensitive method to determine morpholine in synthetic drugs such as linezolid.
Following Chen, Xiaodong Liu, of Thermo Fisher Scientific, will present “A Platform HPLC Method for Pharmaceutical Counter Ion Analysis.” The presentation will describe a platform method for screening all pharmaceutical counter ions (for example, sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, chloride, bromide, nitrate, malate, citrate, sulfate, fumareate, citrate, and others).
Brian De Borba, of Thermo Fisher Scientific, will be the next presenter, with a talk titled “Development of an Assay for Besylate in Amlodipine Besylate by Ion Chromatography and a Second Assay to Simultaneously Determine Amlodipine and Besylate by HPLC.” De Borba will discuss the development of an isocratic ion chromatography method with suppressed conductivity detection for determining besylate in amlodipine besylate, and the development of a second method for the simultaneous determination of amlodipine and besylate using a tri-mode (reverse-phase, anion exchange, cation exchange) HPLC column with UV detection.
After a 15-minute recess, Hua Yang, of Thermo Fisher Scientific, will continue the session with a presentation of “Identification and Quantification of 22 Common Anions in Pharmaceuticals in a Single Run Using HPIC with Suppressed Conductivity and Charge Detection.” This study demonstrates the identification and quantification of 22 commonly found anions in pharmaceuticals in a single run using a high-pressure capillary IC system with 4 µm particle ion-exchange column, and CD/QD dual detectors.
Michael D. McGinley, of Phenomenex (Torrence, California) will present next on “A Rapid Novel Gel Filtration Solution for Determining Protein Aggregation.” Strategies for rapid method development using a new methodology and chromatography solution that provides a more accurate method for quantitating aggregate in protein solution will be discussed.
The next presentation, titled “Separation of Nucleotides by Hydrophilic Interaction Chromatography (HILIC) Using the FRULIC-N Column” will be by Zachary S. Breitbach, of the University of Texas at Arlington. Breitbach will explain how the thermodynamic characteristic of the FRULIC-N column was investigated by evaluating the column temperature effect on retention and using van’t Hoff plots.
Lawrence Y. Loo, of Phenomenex, will provide the session’s final presentation, titled “Coupling Efficiency and Selectivity for Unparalleled Resolving Power to Meet Today’s Chromatographic Challenges.” Loo will discuss a study that demonstrates the advantages of coupling core-shell technology with surface modification that can provide adequate selectivity even in difficult separations.
