Event Overview:

Understanding how multiple factors influence measurable responses is at the heart of experimentation—and yet, real-world experiments involving analytical measurements, such as chromatographic separations and spectroscopic detection, are often complex and resource-intensive. Design of experiments (DOE) provides a practical framework for studying multifactor systems and gaining meaningful insight with fewer experiments. By adopting DOE, scientists and engineers are equipped to better understand process behavior, improve decision making, and increase confidence in experimental conclusions. Join experts for a 60-minute live webinar that introduces the fundamentals of DOE. Discover how this innovative statistical method can increase efficiency, establish a basis for future investigations, and achieve greater returns on investment.

Topics include:

  • Benefits of using DOE versus the limitations of one-factor-at-a-time experimentation
  • Familiarity with common DOE terminology, including main and interaction effect
  • Introduction to a standard DOE workflow, illustrated with examples

Speakers:

Owen Jonathan, MRes
Senior Associate Systems Engineer
JMP Statistical Discovery

Owen Jonathan, MRes, is a senior associate systems engineer at JMP Statistical Discovery, where he identifies critical business issues faced by customers in the United Kingdom and Ireland, guiding them as they adopt data-driven solutions for their organizations.

Prior to becoming a systems engineer, Jonathan was an intern at JMP, identifying DOE applications in biotechnology and delivering DOE workshops and relevant case studies to synthetic biologists. He has a master’s degree in systems and synthetic biology from Imperial College London.

Phil Aston, MSc
Training and Technical Consultant
Crawford Scientific

Phil Aston, MSc, is an experienced analytical chemist and training consultant with over 15 years’ expertise in mass spectrometry, regulatory laboratories, and scientific education. He is a technical and training consultant at Element Lab Solutions, delivering training across LC, GC, MS, and method development.

Aston holds a master's degree from University of Warwick and a bachelor's degree from The University of Manchester. His background includes extensive academic research support in mass spectrometry and hands-on experience in organic and inorganic regulatory labs. He combines strong technical expertise with clear communication, making him a trusted advisor in analytical science training and support.
