Waters Acquires Thermometric For $2.5 Mln
Waters Corp. announced that the company has acquired all of the outstanding capital stock of Thermometric AB, which is a privately held company. Thermometric is a producer of high-performance microcalorimeters. The company noted that the transaction is valued around $2.5 million. After the completion of the purchase, Waters will be merging the acquired business into its TA Instruments Inc.
The Milford, Massachusetts based company said that Thermometric has yearly sales of nearly $4 million and the company expects the transaction to be neutral to its earnings for fiscal 2006. Waters Corp. is holding positions in the complementary analytical technologies called liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry and thermal analysis. These markets account for approximately $5 billion of the overall $20 to $25 billion analytical instrument market.
President of TA Instruments, Terry Kelly commented, "The technologies and products from Thermometric are complementary to our leading position in thermal analysis and will allow us to expand our business into new applications, especially in life science research".
WAT ended Monday's regular trading session at $42.76, up $0.43 or 1.02%, on a volume of 485,100 shares.
The Next Frontier for Mass Spectrometry: Maximizing Ion Utilization
January 20th 2025In this podcast, Daniel DeBord, CTO of MOBILion Systems, describes a new high resolution mass spectrometry approach that promises to increase speed and sensitivity in omics applications. MOBILion recently introduced the PAMAF mode of operation, which stands for parallel accumulation with mobility aligned fragmentation. It substantially increases the fraction of ions used for mass spectrometry analysis by replacing the functionality of the quadrupole with high resolution ion mobility. Listen to learn more about this exciting new development.
The Complexity of Oligonucleotide Separations
January 9th 2025Peter Pellegrinelli, Applications Specialist at Advanced Materials Technology (AMT) explains the complexity of oligonucleotide separations due to the unique chemical properties of these molecules. Issues such as varying length, sequence complexity, and hydrophilic-hydrophobic characteristics make efficient separations difficult. Separation scientists are addressing these challenges by modifying mobile phase compositions, using varying ion-pairing reagents, and exploring alternative separation modes like HILIC and ion-exchange chromatography. Due to these complexities, AMT has introduced the HALO® OLIGO column, which offers high-resolution, fast separations through its innovative Fused-Core® technology and high pH stability. Alongside explaining the new column, Peter looks to the future of these separations and what is next to come.
Using Chromatography to Explore Fluorescent Bioactive Compounds in the Coelomic Fluid of Earthworms
February 6th 2025A study aiming to identify fluorescent bioactive compounds in the coelomic fluid of earthworms, as well as to investigate their structural and functional characteristics for possible use in biomedical applications, utilized a variety of chromatographic techniques.
