Waters Corporation announced today its sponsorship of two American Chemical Society Achievement Awards. The annual awards recognize outstanding accomplishments in the fields of separations science and technology and mass spectrometry.

ACS Award in Separations Science & Technology

The ACS Award in Separations Science & Technology recognizes outstanding accomplishments in fundamental or applied research directed to separationsscience and technology.

The winner of the 2008 ACS Award in Separations Science & Technology, to be announced in September of 2007, will receive $5,000 and a certificatealong with fully paid travel expenses to the 235th ACS National Meeting, April 6-10, 2008 in New Orleans, LA at which the award will be presented.The recipient will also be given the opportunity to deliver a lecture at the meeting.

Nominations for the 2008 Separations Science & Technology award presentation are being accepted through November 1, 2006. The 2004 award recipient - the last year the award was granted - was William Pirkle, Emeritus Prof. of Chemistry, Univ. of Illinois, Urbana-Champagne, IL.

Frank H. Field and Joe L. Franklin Award for Outstanding Achievement in Mass Spectrometry

Waters Corporation is the new corporate sponsor of the Frank H. Field and Joe L. Franklin Award for Outstanding Achievement in Mass Spectrometry.Drs. Field and Franklin worked together as research chemists at Humble Oil & Refining Co. in the 1950s. Together they wrote the influential book"Electron Impact Phenomena and the Properties of Gaseous Ions." Their work was of great fundamental importance to understanding of ion/moleculereactions in the gas phase and they are credited with the development of the first ionization techniques for mass spectrometry.

The winner of the 2007 Frank H. Field and Joe L. Franklin Award for Outstanding Achievement in Mass Spectrometry, Jean H. Futrell of Pacific NorthwestNational Laboratory, will receive $5,000 and a certificate along with fully paid travel expenses to the 233rd National Meeting and Exposition, March25-29, 2007 in Chicago, IL, at which the award will be presented.
