The 23rd International Symposium on Separation Sciences (ISSS 2017) will be held from 19–22 September 2017 at the Vienna University of Technology, located in the heart of the historic Vienna city centre in Austria.

The ISSS 2017 is organized by the Central European Group for Separation Sciences (CEGSS) and the Vienna University of Technology under the guidance of the Austrian Society of Analytical Chemistry (ASAC) and the European Society for Separation Science (EuSSS).

ISSS 2017 will be a place for vivid exchange among scientists as well as the presentation and discussion of new concepts, techniques, and instrumentation in separation sciences, sample preparation, and mass spectrometric detection. Cutting-edge topics will be covered by the eight plenary lectures, 14 keynote lectures, and more than 50 contributed oral presentations, which are solicited in all fields of separation sciences such as:

  • Advances in chromatographic instrumentation

  • New stationary phases for GC and HPLC

  • Sample preparation; multidimensional separation techniques

  • Novel detection schemes

  • Theory and fundamental aspects of separation sciences

  • Applications from the environmental and industrial field

  • Applications from food and consumer product safety.

Outstanding plenary speakers will address the aforementioned topics, including:

  • Bogusław Buszewski (University of Torún) - Novel stationary phase materials for liquid chromatography

  • Gert Desmet (Free University Brussels) - The modelling of separation behaviour in packed and monolithic chromatographic columns

  • Pavel Jandera (University of Pardubice) - The role of the mobile phase in uni- and two-dimensional liquid chromatography

  • Rudolf Krska (IFA Tulln) - Mycotoxins in food and feed

  • Luigi Mondello (University of Messina) - Advances in comprehensive two‑dimensional gas chromatography

  • Peter Schoenmakers (University of Amsterdam) - New approaches to enable separation techniques with maximum peak capacity

  • Kevin Schug (University of Arlington) - The potential and exciting applications of the VUV detector for GC

  • Frantisek Svec (Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory) - New developments in the field of porous polymer monoliths.

Four stimulating pre-conference workshops will also be held on Tuesday 19 September 2017, focused on modern sample preparation methods, comprehensive two-dimensional separation techniques, chromatographic method development, and the validation of chromatographic methods.

The symposium particularly wants to encourage the attendance of young researchers with moderate participation fees, availability of inexpensive accommodation, the provision of travel grants, and a dedicated “Young Scientists Session” (with a travel grant for the next ISSS 2018 awarded for the best presentation).

A commercial exhibition highlighting new instrumentation, products, and services will complement the scientific programme of the conference. Companies will hold product seminars to inform conference participants on new developments in the field.

Registration and abstract submission are already possible through the conference website; key dates are: 30 April 2017 (deadline abstract submission oral presentations) and 15 June 2017 (deadline early bird registration).
