Event Overview:
With the global push towards a circular economy, there are renewed efforts to recycle plastics and to use post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastics, especially in food packaging. However, there are numerous challenges in providing high quality food packaging with PCRs because of volatile impurities, which originates from weathering, contamination, and thermal degradation.
This webinar shows how thermal desorption (TD) and comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography with time-of-flight mass spectrometry (TD-GC×GC-TOF MS) can provide detailed characterization of complex odor and volatiles profiles from PCR resins, as well as confident taste and odor analysis of the packaged products.
Key Learning Objectives:
Who Should Attend:
Speaker:
Shayne Green
Principal Research Scientist
Dow Inc.
Dr. Shayne Green has worked in R&D for Dow Inc. for 34 years. His focus is in determination of trace concentration levels of small molecules in polyethylene and food packaging using extraction, chromatography, and mass spectrometry, which includes polymer additives analyses and taste and odor analyses.
Peter Shimeall
Associate R&D Specialist
Dow Inc.
Peter Shimeall has worked in R&D for Dow Inc. for over 10 years. He has experience in polymer characterization and small molecule extractions and analysis of polyethylene using chromatography and mass spectrometry. Most recently he has been focused on GCxGC analyses to determine organoleptics in polyethylene. In addition, he is a trained expert in Dow’s Sensory lab.
