The financial reports for Agilent Technologies’ first quarter of 2009 have identified trends in the demand for product platforms.

Breaking the report down by platform showed both gas and liquid chromatography systems have performed weaker than last year, while both microarrays and LC–MS grew by double digits.

Additionally, although the company reports the revenues of the company’s bio-analytical segment are down on last year’s, life science sales to academic and government markets are up dramatically, owing to particular strength in microassays and LC–MS systems shown by this sector. The food safety market also performed well.
