Two of the 2009 R&D 100 awards have been awarded to Phenomenex for the company’s gas chromatography products. The Zebron ZB-Bioethanol column, which is used for biofuel testing, won in the analytical instruments category, as did the company’s Zebron ZB-Drug-1 column for the analysis of drugs of abuse.
"It’s unusual that two GC columns have won awards and this is a testament to our sharp focus on meeting the needs of specific industries," said Ngoc Nguyen, GC brand manager for Phenomenex in a statement.
According to the company the Zebron ZB-Drug-1 GC quickly and accurately tests for drugs of abuse, such as opiates, marijuana and cocaine, in forensic applications and job applicant screening.
The company claims that the Zebron ZB-Bioethanol column resolves a number of challenges facing bioethanol plants, providing accurate analysis of fuel samples in one-eighth the time of other columns.
