Metrohm (Herisau, Switzerland) has announced the formation of a strategic alliance with FOSS (Hilleroed, Denmark). Metrohm will become the sole global distributor of FOSS NIR instruments for the chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and environmental sectors.
Metrohm (Herisau, Switzerland) has announced the formation of a strategic alliance with FOSS (Hilleroed, Denmark). Metrohm will become the sole global distributor of FOSS NIR instruments for the chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and environmental sectors.
The agreement will see FOSS advancing its research and development programme within NIR technology and manufacturing for Metrohm. Torben Ladegaard, CEO of FOSS, said that the strategic alliance would allow FOSS to focus its NIR business on the Food & Agricultural industries that it has served for more than 50 years and make this technology available to a broader customer base.
FOSS NIRSystems (Maryland, USA) will be renamed Metrohm NIRSystems. Dr Philip Irving, President of FOSS NIRSystems said: “With Metrohm’s strong worldwide presence, commitment to the pharmaceutical and chemical industries, and with this investment in NIR the alliance allows us to further grow our business within these sectors and provide our customers with a steady stream of new innovative NIR products and the highest level of support.” He added that the Metrohm NIRSystems division of Metrohm USA would run the global NIR instrument business for these sectors.

Transferring Methods to Compact and Portable HPLC
February 14th 2024The current trend in laboratory equipment design is the miniaturization of laboratory instruments. Smaller-scale HPLC instruments offer benefits that cannot be matched by analytical-scale equipment, especially in the areas of portability, reduced fluid volumes, and reduced operating costs. Yet, the miniaturization of laboratory equipment has brought with it a unique set of challenges, including transferring methods to compact LC. Capillary LC expands the use of LC to applications not currently done using conventional LC in a wide array of application areas, including pharmaceutical, food and beverage, petrochemical, environmental, and oil and gas.
