Dr. Kathy Ridgway has over 29 years of laboratory experience as an analytical chemist, mainly working with GC-MS. She has worked on a wide range of food contaminants and completed a PhD at the University of Loughborough focused on alternative extraction techniques while working for Unilever Research. Following this, she worked as a technical specialist in taints and off-flavors at Reading Scientific Services Limited (RSSL). She now works as a senior applications chemist at Element (formerly Anatune) on automation of sample preparation protocols and alternative extraction techniques. Her main focus is on food, flavor, and fragrance applications.

She is an active member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, involved with both the food group (past secretary and chair) and the separation science interest group (current secretary). She is also on the organizing committee of the BMSS Environmental and Food Analysis Special Interest Group. She has published several papers, contributed to several book chapters, written magazine articles, and presented her work at international conferences.

Tony Taylor is the Chief Scientific Officer of Element Life Sciences EMEAA. He has worked in the pharmaceutical, polymer, contract analysis and consulting industries for more than 35 years. He is an experienced chromatographer who isn’t afraid to admit that every day is a school day in the lab. He is a founder of CHROMacademy, the website where chromatographers to go learn. His passion for automation in the analytical laboratory started in 1995 when he developed his first fully automated online Solid Phase Extraction—Programmed Thermal Vaporizing—GC-MS system. He has taught thousands of chromatographers globally and his natural enthusiasm for analytical science makes him a very popular speaker on webcasts, podcasts, and webinars.
