Eight years of successful partnership with the pharma industry has resulted in a specialist pharmaceutical division being created by Sodexo. As a food and facilities management services provider the company has seen growth in food, general services and technical support.

The division will be spearheaded by Keith Lawson, divisional director, who said, "Through the bundling of our technical and general services, we have been able to remove 15–20% of revenue out of our clients' operating costs. While we have been working with the pharmaceutical industry for a number of years now, we are pleased to be in a position to be able to dedicate further resource to our clients, underlining our commitment, and position as a leading player in this market."

Sodexo has identified and recruited experienced professionals to bring operational expertise, including HSE (Health and Safety Executive) directors to address business change and compliance.

Alongside its traditional FM services, Sodexo has introduced a team of technical experts to self deliver lab instrument services. This specialist support includes solution repair services, de-commissioning, scientific equipment installation, laboratory moves, preventative maintenance, calibration, operational qualification, full account management, financial reporting asset management IT solution, waste management and cryogenics.

More recently, in October 2008, Sodexo secured The BIFM Innovations in Systems and Services award for its work with a key pharmaceutical client.Sodexo's aims to become the premier global expert in quality of life services and, in the last year alone, has secured new food and facilities management contracts with GSK, Pfizer and Astrazeneca worth over £200 million in total.
