Hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) separations are gaining increased prominence in many application areas. The ability to retain polar neutral and ionizable polar species makes HILIC particularly popular for metabolomics and drug development studies. However, method development experience for HILIC is relatively scarce (or limited) in comparison to reversed-phase liquid chromatography (RPLC) in many laboratories. This seminar is designed to help the new HILIC chromatographer avoid the typical pitfalls that HILIC presents by establishing the critical parameters involved in HILIC separations. It will also demonstrate the relevance of a generally applicable selectivity-based HILIC method development platform to develop a HILIC related substances–purity method.
