Thermo Fisher Scientific’s (Waltham, Massachusetts) Cambridge, UK, facility has been awarded the Queens Award for Enterprise 2009 in the Outstanding Innovation category for its iCAP 6000 Series inductively couple plasma–optical emission spectrometry (ICP–OES) system. The award recognizes the system as one of the year’s most outstanding technical innovations. The instrument is designed for use in laboratories to detect and measure low levels of toxic or pollutant elements in a wide range of samples. According to the company, the instrument was developed for environmental, metallurgical, petrochemica, and food safety applications.
