Waters is acquiring Calorimetry Sciences, a manufacturer of high-performance calorimeters.

Waters is acquiring Calorimetry Sciences (CSC), a manufacturer of high-performance calorimeters. Waters reports that the CSC business, with annual sales of approximately $4 million, will be added to its TA Instruments Division.

"The technologies and products from CSC will complement our recently introduced TAM microcalorimeter product line and will further strengthen TA Instruments' industry-leading position in thermal analysis while increasing our exposure to the growing adoption of microcalorimetry in life science research and drug development," comments to Terry Kelly, president of TA Instruments.

CSC's key products

CSC?s key products are the Nano-ITC, an isothermal titration calorimeter designed to measure protein-ligand binding, and the Nano-DSC, an ultra-sensitive scanning calorimeter used for applications such as measuring the stability of proteins and other macromolecules in dilute solutions.

Waters reports that the transaction is expected to be neutral to 2007 earnings. The company has a strong position in three complementary analytical technologies - liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, and thermal analysis. These markets reportedly account for approximately $5 billion of the estimated $20- to $25-billion analytical instrumentation market.
