Drew Szabo

Drew Szabo is a postdoctoral researcher in analytical chemistry, originally from Australia and currently based at the Centre of Excellence in Mass Spectrometry, University of York, UK. Drew obtained his PhD in 2022 from the University of Melbourne for the study of fate and impact of PFAS in the Australian environment. Now, his research focuses on the prioritisation of emerging contaminants using suspect and non-targeted screening from hyphenated high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS). Drew spent two years at the Department of Materials and Environmental Chemistry (MMK) at Stockholm University, where he developed a HRMS prioritisation workflow for the detection and identification of emerging contaminants derived from recycled textiles. Then, he was awarded the Marie Skłodowska Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2024, where he applies advanced computational tools to prioritise HRMS features by using structural fingerprints to predict ecotoxicological endpoints.
