Perception, not technology, remains the biggest barrier to supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) adoption, says JASCO's Tom DePhillipo.

Tom DePhillipo is the director of sales and marketing at JASCO Inc., with extensive experience in supercritical fluid solutions (SFC/SFE). He began his career as an R&D chemist in Wyeth Ayerst’s injectable pharmaceuticals division before transitioning into the analytical instrumentation industry. He spent six years at Dionex Corporation (pre-Thermo acquisition) as a technical specialist, developing methods for HPLC, ion chromatography (IC), and accelerated solvent extraction (ASE). He then joined Thar SFC, leading the development of analytical and preparative SFC applications. Following Waters Corporation’s acquisition of Thar SFC, Tom spent the next decade as an SFC specialist, playing a key role in the launch and commercialization of their current supercritical product line, including SFC and SFE technologies.
Over the past 11 years at JASCO Inc, Tom has held progressively senior roles, beginning as a product specialist, advancing to business development manager for the chromatography portfolio, and ultimately to his current position as director of marketing and sales.
