The jubilee 20th International Symposium on Separation Sciences (ISSS 2014) will take place at the Hotel DAP in Prague, Czech Republic, from 30 August to 2 September 2014. The symposium will bring together specialists from all areas of separation science from around the world to partake in the exchange of new ideas from both academia and industry.
The scientific programme will include plenary and keynote lectures presented by leading scientists, contributed oral presentations, and poster sessions. The topics to be featured and discussed include: Miniaturized capillary and chip-based fluidic separation media; hyphenated and multi-dimensional techniques; method development; chemometric approaches; quality assessment; ultra-fast high-flow and high-temperature gas and liquid chromatography; and sample pre-treatment and preparation. In addition, advances in column technology will be addressed focusing on micro- and nano-particle, core–shell, and monolithic technologies. Other topics that will be covered range from new stationary phase chemistries for high hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) and chiral separations, to molecularly-imprinted media and stationary phases providing a dual retention mechanism, with an emphasis on novel application methods, especially in food, clinical, and environmental analysis. Special emphasis will be put on novel application methods, especially in food, biomedical, and environmental analysis.
The following eminent scientists have been confirmed as presenters at the symposium: D. Berek; T. Bolanca; B. Buszewski; V. Coman; D. Corradini; F. Foret; M. Gertsiuk; M. Gilar; M. Holčapek; V. Kašicka; I. Klebovich; J. Lehotay; W. Lindner; M. Macka; L. Mondello; Mx. Novotný; P. Sandra; P. Schoenmakers; F. Švec; and I. Vovk.
The 20th ISSS symposium will be a unique opportunity for exhibitors to display their products and services to the participants. A poster competition will be organized for young scientists and students. Last but not least, a rich social programme will be organized, including a symposium dinner, boat trip, and a sight-seeing walk around Prague.

Paraben Exposure and Childhood Obesity Risk in Preschoolers: UPLC-MS/MS Insights from Recent Study
July 14th 2025Researchers speculating that exposure to paraben in early childhood is associated with changes in satiety hormones performed analysis of urinary methyl, ethyl, propyl, and butylparaben (MeP, EtP, PrP, BuP) levels in 4–6-year-old children, using ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS).
GC-MS Sheds Light on Chemical Communication Between Desert Locusts
July 9th 2025A multinational research team used behavioral assays and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to examine short- and long-term interactions between juvenile and adult desert locusts to test their hypothesis that cross-stage interactions influence juvenile cohesion and physiological traits.
