I can now see new papers appearing with some applications I would not even have thought possible with SFC before, and I'm very happy about that. Now, you can scan a very wide range of solvent compositions, from 100% carbon dioxide to 100% cosolvent, if necessary, because this is all continuous. You are not changing the fluid state in between, so it opens new possibilities for analyzing much more polar compounds. A good example of this is for metabolomics, where you need to analyze both lipophilic compounds and hydrophilic compounds in a single chromatogram.¹
