The 50th International Symposium on High Performance Liquid Phase Separations and Related Techniques (HPLC 2022) returns to the USA on 18-23 June 2022. The chair of the symposium offers an overview of what chromatographers can look forward to.

After three “lost” years, the feast of chromatography returns in 2022. Mark your calendars! The next HPLC symposium will be held 18–23 June 2022 in the Town and Country Hotel and Exhibit Center in San Diego, California, USA. The upcoming 50th sequel of this symposium series will enable “in-person” mingling of participants and leaders in separation science from a diverse range of industries, government laboratories, universities, and research institutes.

The HPLC symposia are the longest running, largest, and most recognized international chromatographic conference series in the world. The symposium covers all aspects of separations and analyses carried out in liquid phase, including the variety of approaches typical of chromatography and electrophoresis.

The goal of HPLC 2022 is to bring together scientists at all professional levels involved with all aspects of liquid‑phase separations, from fundamental research to practice, to provide a dynamic programme with cutting-edge presentations and engaging scientific sessions, and to offer wide opportunities for training, networking, and informal discussion. Scientists and researchers will present the latest trends and issues in areas such as column technology, three-dimensional (3D)-printing, two‑dimensional liquid chromatography (2D-LC), capillary LC, micro- and nanofluidics, sample preparation, theory of the chromatographic separation processes, mass spectrometry (MS) detection, and a myriad of other topics related to liquid‑phase separations and analyses.

The extensive programme will also demonstrate novel solutions to important problems in medicine, biology, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food industries, the environment, manufacturing, and agriculture, as well as industrial research and development. The conference programme is guided by advances and emerging trends in separations technology and their impact on science, industry, and society. The symposium will feature plenary, keynote, and contributed talks, practical and educational short courses, tutorials that will provide outstanding opportunities for newcomers to obtain a solid foundation in the field and for veterans to update their knowledge, and technical workshops, all presented by the leaders in the field. We will give an extended opportunity to young scientists to share their results in oral presentations, and we also expect a large number of posters to be displayed. Their quality will be evaluated in the best poster competition that will recognize outstanding contributions to science and innovative breakthrough research. Meanwhile, the major exposition will showcase new product launches, innovative products, and the latest and greatest in instrumentation, software, tools, accessories, and consumables; it will also provide opportunities to discuss challenges and solutions with experts in the booths.

However, our symposium is not just about talks, posters, and exhibitions. It will also provide a friendly, welcoming environment that fosters dialogue and interpersonal communications, as well as face-to-face encounters in the symposium and exhibition halls. The informal meetings and rich social programme will continue to be an integral part in keeping with conference tradition and we will provide a multitude of opportunities
for that.

And last but not least: San Diego features charming neighbourhoods and communities, including downtown’s historic Gaslamp Quarter or Coronado. This city is also renowned for its idyllic climate, long beaches, and a dazzling array of world-famous attractions such as the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, and Legoland.
