Jim Grinias Reflects on EAS and Emerging Chromatography Trends for 2025

Author(s)Aaron Acevedo

Recently, we talked with Jim Grinias of Rowan University about his experiences at EAS 2024 and his expectations for analytical chemistry trends in 2025.

At the 2024 Eastern Analytical Symposium (EAS), held from November 18–20 in Plainsboro, NJ, scientists gathered to discuss the latest advancements in analytical chemistry. As part of our conference coverage, we interviewed Jim Grinias of Rowan University about his conference experience and his expectations for 2025.

James P. Grinias is an associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry at Rowan University, and a member of the EAB for LCGC International. His research typically focuses on the fundamental development of liquid chromatography (LC) columns in capillaries and microfluidic devices.

In the interview, Jim answered the following questions:

  • As the chair of a session at EAS on new detection methods in separation science, what emerging techniques are you currently seeing making an impact in the field?
  • Are there any novel detection methods you're currently most interested in exploring or think our readers should be paying attention to?
  • Looking ahead to 2025, what emerging trends do you see shaping the future of separation science?
  • You recently wrote an LCGC Blog about historical landmarks associated with analytical chemistry and the American Chemical Society’s National Historic Chemical Landmarks program. What landmarks stood out to you and why?
  • As a new host of the Analytically Speaking podcast, can you share a sneak peek of what exciting topics or guests we can expect in the upcoming months?
