Company Description
Formed in 1997, Markes International is the world's leading supplier of thermal desorption (TD) instrumentation and related sampling accessories for monitoring toxic and odorous chemicals in air, gas, and materials.
Chief Chromatographic Techniques Supported
Markets Served
Markes serves fast growing markets from environmental health and safety to materials testing and from food/flavor/fragrance to defense and forensic. Markes' global customer base includes: major industry, government agencies, academia, and the service laboratory sector.
Major Products/Services
Markes International has introduced several highly successful brands of TD instruments to the market including: The UNITY series (a universal platform for sorbent tubes and whole air/gas samples — canisters, bags, and online air/gas streams); the TD-100 fully-automated TD system; the 100-tube ULTRA series of TD autosamplers, including automated sample re-collection (a patented method of overcoming the "one-shot" limitation of many TD devices); the Micro-Chamber/Thermal Extractor for materials testing (which is especially useful for REACH, and other such legislation); the TT24-7 for continuous online monitoring; the HS5-TD for coupling headspace analysis with TD for greatly enhanced sensitivity; and the TC-20 multi-tube conditioner.
Markes also supplies a wide range of sampling accessories and consumables including TubeTAG electronic labels for tracking sorbent tubes from field to lab and within a lab.
From ALMSCO International, a division of Markes International:
ClearView — GC–MS software package which enhances trace analyte identification.
TargetView — target compound detection software for GC–MS and BenchTOF-dx a high definition TOF-MS.
Facilities
Markes' factory, R&D center, and headquarters is based in the UK. The US operation (Markes International, Inc.) is based in Wilmington, Delaware. Markes further supports a global distributor network. Markes International also has a division for the development of time-of-flight mass spectrometers (BenchTOF-dx) and associated software; ALMSCO International.

AI and GenAI Applications to Help Optimize Purification and Yield of Antibodies From Plasma
October 31st 2024Deriving antibodies from plasma products involves several steps, typically starting from the collection of plasma and ending with the purification of the desired antibodies. These are: plasma collection; plasma pooling; fractionation; antibody purification; concentration and formulation; quality control; and packaging and storage. This process results in a purified antibody product that can be used for therapeutic purposes, diagnostic tests, or research. Each step is critical to ensure the safety, efficacy, and quality of the final product. Applications of AI/GenAI in many of these steps can significantly help in the optimization of purification and yield of the desired antibodies. Some specific use-cases are: selecting and optimizing plasma units for optimized plasma pooling; GenAI solution for enterprise search on internal knowledge portal; analysing and optimizing production batch profitability, inventory, yields; monitoring production batch key performance indicators for outlier identification; monitoring production equipment to predict maintenance events; and reducing quality control laboratory testing turnaround time.
Investigating Synthetic Cathinone Positional Isomers using LC–EAD-MS
November 7th 2024Peng Che fom Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in the Netherlands discusses the benefits of hyphenating liquid chromatography (LC) with electron activated dissociation mass spectrometry (EAD-MS) to analyze cathinone positional isomers.
