The University of Texas at Arlington (UT) (Texas, USA) has announced its investment of $7.5 million into the creation of the Institute for Research Technologies at UT Arlington, adding to the philanthropic investment made by Shimadzu (Duisburg, Germany) earlier this year. This brings the total investment in the formation of the institute to $25.2 million.
The new institute will incorporate three centres; the existing Shimadzu Centre for Advanced Analytical Chemistry, a new Centre for Imaging and a new Centre for Environmental, Forensic and Material Analysis. The Institute for Research Technologies will also have exclusive access within North America to equipment provided by Shimadzu.
"The integration of this wide-ranging technology throughout UT Arlington will provide our students with the critical and essential skills they need to enter the workforce," said Pamela Jansma, dean of the UT Arlington College of Science. "It also will help our University develop a robust influx of budding researchers at all degree levels."
"Shimadzu sees in UT Arlington an exciting energy, great vision and the potential to transform scientific research and education" commented Shuzo Maruyama, president of Shimadzu Scientific Instruments in Columbia, Maryland, USA. "We are delighted to have the opportunity to catalyze the potential of this great institution."
Shimadzu's partnership with UT was featured in the LCGC Europe Enews earlier this year. Please click here to read that feature.

High-Throughput 4D TIMS Method Accelerates Lipidomics Analysis
April 25th 2024Ultrahigh-pressure liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-HRMS) had been previously proposed for untargeted lipidomics analysis, but this updated approach was reported by the authors to reduce run time to 4 min.
Inside the Laboratory –– Women in Separation Science Edition
April 25th 2024Inside the Laboratory is a joint series with LCGC and Spectroscopy, profiling analytical scientists and their research groups at universities all over the world. This series spotlights the current chromatographic and spectroscopic research their groups are conducting, and the importance of their research in analytical chemistry and specific industries. In this “Inside the Laboratory –– Women in Separation Science” special edition PDF, we profile four industry leaders and the impact that their research is having in specific fields such as environmental analysis, forensics, national security, and drug development.
