The LCGC Blog, Call for Abstracts! The 43rd Annual International Symposium and Exhibit on the Separation, Purification, and Characterization of Biologically Important Molecules!

My time in the separation community has been one marked by great relationships and professional enrichment. For me, taking a leadership role in our community has meant chairing sessions and joining the executive board of international, national, and regional conferences and organizations. Most recently, it has me devoting time to aid the evolution of this year’s 43rd International Symposium on the Separation and Characterization of Proteins, Peptides, and Polynucleotides (ISPPP).

The ISPPP brings together many of the world’s leading authorities to discuss the latest advances and applications for scientists, addressing issues of separation, purification, and characterization. Additionally, the conference addresses the analysis of proteins, peptides, polynucleotides, and related biomolecules with modern techniques. Separation from analytical micropreparative to the industrial scale will be covered. Emphasis will be placed on high-speed, comprehensive, and important aspects of separation science as applied to classes of biochemical analyses and the consequences of these analyses. The ISPPP creates an environment of learning and inspiration that benefits the individual and helps advance the frontiers of bioscience.

Presentations at the ISPPP will involve high-value technical talks. I encourage researchers with new results and data in areas covering all aspects of the separation and characterization of biochemical compounds to submit abstracts, albeit up to 400 words and no graphics, for oral and poster presentations. We strive to ensure the broadest possible coverage and exchanges of recent advances focusing on separation science.

Key Dates

August 1st, 2024 – Oral abstracts deadline. Abstracts should be submitted as soon as possible, noting that contributed oral abstracts will be considered if appropriate space is available in the program.

September 30th – Poster abstract deadline for inclusion in the printed final program.

August 30th – Deadline for reduced registration fees.

October 11th – Hotel Reservation Deadline.

October 15th – Final date to submit last-minute posters to the online program.

October 28–30th – ISPPP at the Delray Beach.

The symposium will include short courses on Sunday, October 27, 2024, as a prelude to the symposium. The topics under final review are mass spectrometry (MS), regulatory/GMP/Quality Control, and oligo purification and characterization. For each category, the conference invited keynote lectures by authorities in their respective fields, contributed talks, and a poster session. Planned sessions include Proteomics and Protein Measurements, Novel Separation Approaches, Monoclonal Antibodies, Synthetic and Biological Nucleic Acids, Glycans, and Complex Carbohydrates. Contributed talks and posters are accepted on a competitive basis.

About the Author

Jonathan Edelman began his career as an analytical chemist in the pharmaceutical industry. Inspired by his long-standing love of science and natural ease in its commercial aspect, he works towards strategic business solutions in the chromatography field. Currently in business development at Restek, he volunteers his time to various nonprofit organizations within the chromatography community. Edelman serves as Treasurer of the ACS SCSC; Chair of the organizing committee for the ISCC/GC×GC 2021 conference; President emeritus of the Chromatography Forum of Delaware Valley and Washington Chromatography Forum; and Founder and President of the Separation Community Mixer.
