In this month's LCGC Blog, Hayley Brawley and Alexia Kreinbrink explore the challenges facing chromatographers when exploring the complex world of metal speciation.

Hayley Brawley is a Senior Research Scientist with the USAF 59th Medical Wing’s Clinical and Operational Space Medicine Consortium (COSMIC), where one of her research focuses is on applying advanced analytical and spectroscopic techniques to study nutritional status, pharmaceutical stability, and biomarker profiles relevant to aerospace and operational medicine. She earned her PhD in Chemistry from Texas A&M University, where she developed chromatographic and mass spectrometry methods to investigate metal homeostasis and micronutrient regulation under the guidance of Dr. Paul A. Lindahl. Dr. Brawley has previously held research roles at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, supporting flight and ground-based analog studies. She also serves as an executive board member of the ACS Subdivision of Chromatography and Separations Chemistry (SCSC).
