Company Description

Malvern's materials and biophysical characterization technology and expertise enables scientists and engineers to investigate, understand, and control the properties of materials, including proteins and polymers in solution.

Malvern's range of molecular characterization solutions includes the Zetasizer Nano range of instruments and Viscotek GPC/SEC systems and detectors. These enable accurate measurement of molecular weight, size, intrinsic viscosity, and conformation.

This provides critical information that helps accelerate research and product development, enhance and maintain product quality, and optimize process efficiency.

Chief Chromatographic Techniques Supported

  • Gel permeation chromatography (GPC)

  • Size exclusion chromatography (SEC)

  • SEC-LS (light scattering)

  • SEC-TD (triple detection - light scattering, viscometer, and refractive index)

  • SEC-DLS (dynamic light scattering)

  • SEC-MALS (multi-angle light scattering)

Markets Served

The Viscotek range of GPC/SEC systems and detectors provides solutions to many applications for the characterization of proteins and biomolecules, natural and synthetic polymers, copolymers, and other macromolecules.

Markets served include

  • Polymer research

  • Paints and coatings

  • Bulk polymers and polyolefins

  • Food ingredients

  • Drug excipients

  • Tablet coatings

  • Cosmetic and cosmeceuticals

  • Biopharmaceuticals - oligomeric state and purity, aggregates

Major Products/Services

Malvern's molecular characterization products include the Viscotek range of GPC/SEC systems and detectors for the complete analysis of molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, molecular size, and structure of proteins and polymers.

The highly sensitive light scattering and viscometer detectors are available as part of a complete Viscotek GPC/SEC system, or as individual modules offering exceptional flexibility for use with existing chromatography systems.

The Zetasizer µV uses dynamic light scattering and static light scattering to determine molecular weight and size, and can be added as a detector to any SEC system.

Facilities

Headquartered in Malvern, UK, Malvern Instruments has subsidiary organizations in all major European markets, North America, Mexico, China, Japan, and Korea, a joint venture in India, a global distributor network, and applications laboratories around the world.

The company has a chromatography center of excellence based in Houston, Texas, that features customer demonstration laboratories, product development, and manufacturing.
