PerkinElmer expands globally with new facilities in the U.K. and China and launches a strategic partnership with Covaris and Hamilton to enhance laboratory solutions and diagnostics worldwide.
PerkinElmer, a global provider of life sciences and diagnostic solutions, is expanding its operations with new facilities in the United Kingdom (UK) and China, along with a strategic partnership designed to enhance laboratory capabilities worldwide. Together, these initiatives reflect the company’s focus on strengthening its presence in key markets while providing laboratories with more integrated solutions for research, diagnostics, and workflow efficiency. The company announced the expansions and partnership earlier this year
In High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, PerkinElmer has opened a new facility featuring advanced research and development laboratories that are focused on materials characterization. The site also houses a Center of Excellence that provides customer training and technical support, enabling local researchers and clients to access the latest technologies and expertise. The facility is intended to streamline the delivery of solutions across the UK, supporting both academic and commercial research efforts, while reinforcing PerkinElmer’s regional presence.
The company also recently inaugurated an expanded manufacturing and R&D facility in Taicang, Jiangsu Province, China. The 12,000-square-meter complex integrates research and development, manufacturing, quality control, and logistics under one roof and incorporates advanced automation and digital systems. The Taicang facility is a central component of PerkinElmer’s “In China, For China–and Beyond” strategy, which is designed to meet growing domestic demand while supporting operations across the Asia-Pacific region. The site also allows for faster response to regulatory requirements and helps enhance operational efficiency, positioning the company to better serve local and regional customers.
“By deepening our roots in Taicang, we are better positioned to support Chinese customers with agility, innovation, and long-term commitment,” said Dirk Bontridder, CEO of PerkinElmer, in a press release.
In addition to the facility expansions, PerkinElmer has formed a strategic partnership with Covaris and Hamilton Company to deliver the Sonication Star liquid handler. The collaboration combines Hamilton’s precision automation with Covaris’ extraction chemistry to create an end-to-end solution for nucleic acid extraction from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples. The platform is designed to improve sequencing outcomes, reduce sample failures, and increase the proportion of fully reported tumor profiles by up to 16%, supporting laboratories in generating more consistent and actionable results.
“Our partnership with Hamilton, an automation pioneer, perfectly aligns with our mission and vision of advancing the science of our customers with purpose. By combining our life science expertise with Hamilton’s innovative platforms, we exemplify the power of purposeful partnership in driving meaningful scientific outcomes,” Bontridder said.
These initiatives are part of PerkinElmer’s broader strategy to expand its global footprint while investing in technology and partnerships that enhance laboratory performance and scientific outcomes. By establishing new facilities in the U.K. and China and collaborating with leading technology providers, the company is working to provide researchers, healthcare providers, and diagnostic laboratories with tools and infrastructure that support the advancement of science and the delivery of more reliable results worldwide.
