I had sufficient time during my summer break (between the odd Pina Colada!) to contemplate some of the issues raised and problems posed within this column over the past two years. How many of these problems have been addressed, what new problems have arisen and what is the general outlook within analytical chemistry? This issue then is somewhat of a retrospective on separations in the condensed phase, a subjective update and a vehicle to pose some new questions to exercise our creativity and challenge current thinking!
