Analytically, OPPs can pose some challenges due to the wide diversity of physical structures and behavioral characteristics of individual analytes. This often results in individual extraction protocols being implemented for labs to meet regulatory compliances. With the FMS, Inc TurboTrace® ABN Multi Cartridge SPE system, and its ability to incorporate dual cartridge extractions, it is possible to pair analytes with dissimilar characteristics into a single, fully automated extraction process.

Traditional extraction typically involve intensive manual LLE shakes at both pH 2 and 12 prone heavy emulsions and low recoveries or CLLE for traditional base, neutral, and acid for semivolatiles extractions can take up to 24hrs. By incorporating automated SPE with multi-bed sorbents, base, neutral, and acid for semivolatiles samples can be extracted with a single pass procedure without emulsions, centrifuging, and hours of manual labor. The FMS TurboTrace ABN SPE system is designed to handle multiple cartridges and provides a fully automated solution for the semivolatile extraction process.

Analysis of the six matrices processed yielded acceptable recoveries for all analytes with standard deviations below 20%. Analysis of an n-hexane blank sample resulted in no detectable target analytes measured within the calibration range of each respective compound.

The dioxin family consists of 210 compounds, of which 17 contain the 2,3,7,8 pattern of chlorination. These 2,3,7,8 containing compounds are of extreme human health concern due to their high level of toxicity. Approximately, 12 of the 209 polychlorinated biphenyls have also been identified as human toxins. For this reason, the US FDA and EU have established strict regulations for the monitoring of food products for human consumption, in particular edible oils. Manual extractions of oils can be a time consuming procedure often delaying lab turnaround times. By automating the process with the EconoPrep®, food oil samples can be reliably processed with routine 24 hr turnaround times.

Diesel range organics or DRO is the cumulative analysis of extractable alkanes between the ranges C10 through C28 as measured on a flame ionization detector.

The EconoPrep® is designed specifically to automate the difficult, error prone, labor intensive manual processes involved in sample prep for trace analysis. The EconoPrep offers economically priced consumable kits for Environmental and Food Matrices. The system uses reduced solvent making it a green alternative to manual techniques. It automatically performs Extraction, Sample Cleanup and Concentration allowing for same day results. More information Please link to this document and require a form to be filled out.

Organochlorine pesticides are among the more notorious organic pollutants. Gaining wide spread attention into the latter part of the 20th century, and ultimately leading to their ban, OCPs remain with us as a legacy contaminant in the environment.

In water samples, OCPs are monitored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency by various methods including methods EPA 508, EPA 608, and EPA 8081. The use of solid phase extraction (SPE) can rapidly increase both extraction efficiency and reduce lab solvent usage. By implementing the FMS TurboTrace® ABN system with its dual cartridge functionality, an in-line Florisil cartridge can be added to perform automated extract clean-up during the elution step.

Plastics and other polymers are used in a wide spectrum of applications from industrial usage to packaging, including the packaging of food and pharmaceutical products.

PCBs are a group of synthetic organic chemicals that contain 209 individual compounds (known as congeners) with varying harmful effects. PCBs enter the environment as mixtures containing a variety of individual components.
