Suraj Shrestha is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry at Clemson University, working under the supervision of Prof. R. Kenneth Marcus. He received his Master of Science in Chemistry from Tribhuvan University (Nepal). His Ph.D. research focuses on developing high resolution mass spectrometric methods for the elemental and isotopic analysis of dissolved ionic solutions and particulate samples, particularly for nuclear forensics and environmental applications.
Ultrahigh-resolution mass spectrometry measured plutonium and samarium isotope ratios in irradiated uranium directly, skipping chemical separation and cutting analysis time while avoiding common interference problems. LCGC International spoke to Clemson University’s Suraj Shrestha and R. Kenneth (Ken) Marcus about the process.
