At Analytica 2024 in Munich, Germany, LCGC International sat down with Uwe Karst of the University of Münster to talk about the future of imaging, analytical chemistry trends, and his current areas of research.

Currently, Professor Karst is the Chair of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Münster, a position he has held since 2005. He has authored more than 350 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Karst’s research interests are liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS), with particular focus on the simulation of oxidative metabolism reactions based on the analysis of non-polar analytes by means of LC–MS and speciation analysis using LC with electrospray- and inductively coupled plasma–MS (ICP-MS).

In this video interview, Karst answers the following questions:

  • Can you tell me about the sessions you’re chairing or speaking at during Analytica this week?
  • Tell us a little bit about your current areas of research.
  • What trends are you observing right now in analytical chemistry instrumentation?
  • What trends do you expect we’ll see in the future of imaging?
  • What are you most looking forward to from the conference this week? Are there any specific awards or sessions you’re particularly excited about?
