Exploring the Limits of 2D-LC: An HPLC Interview with André De Villiers

Article

At HPLC 2023, LCGC spoke with André De Villiers of Stellenbosch University in South Africa. These clips comprise one of several HPLC interviews that were conducted at the conference.

De Villiers sat down with LCGC to address several points related to two-dimensional liquid chromatography (2D-LC) including automation and the use of hydrophilic-interaction chromatography (HILIC) and reversed-phase liquid chromatography (RPLC).

De Villiers is a Professor at Stellenbosch University in South Africa.

In these interview clips, De Villiers answers the following:

  1. Why are automated method development tools necessary for 2D-LC? What are the benefits? (00:16–01:51)
  2. Can you elaborate on the process of using kinetic optimisation of experimental parameters for the analysis of phenolic compounds? (01:52–03:10)
  3. What are the main challenges you encountered in this research project and how did you overcome them? (03:11–04:14)
  4. What are the benefits of using HILIC as one of the separation modes? (04:15–05:14)
  5. Are there any other interesting developments in the world of 2D-LC? (05:15–06:24)
