LCGC spoke with Elisabeth Bik, PhD, of Harbers Bik LLC about the challenge of preventing scientific and research misconduct in scientific publishing. This segment is Part 4 of 6 of our conversation with Bik.
Bik spoke at the 2022 Eastern Analytical Symposium in Plainsboro, New Jersey, where she delivered the Breakfast Lecture titled “The Dark Side of Science: Misconduct in Research.”
Bik is a microbiologist and scientific integrity consultant. She is best known for her work detecting photo manipulation in scientific publications. She is the founder of Microbiome Digest, a blog that provides daily updates on microbiome research, and the Science Integrity Digest blog. She was awarded the 2021 John Maddox Prize for her outstanding work in exposing widespread threats to research integrity in scientific publishing.
LCGC sat down with Bik to discuss her research and findings. In Part 4 of this six-part interview series “Misconduct in Research,” Bik answers the question: "Do you think that the statement that sometimes experiments are repeated until the “right” results are obtained is an exaggeration of the status of medical research?"
