The Shimadzu prominence TOX.I.S. system is based on well-established LC hardware modules. Their patented flow line design and column switching procedure enable pre-treatment of urine samples with a cleaning step, rinsing to remove proteins and other urine components, and transfer of the sample onto the analytical columns for separation.
Acute poisoning, drug abuse or use of illegal substances - toxicological analysis of body fluids is a major task, for criminal prosecution, in emergencies or in sport. Such analyses require a universal sample pre-treatment and identification method, and need to be automated for speed and simplicity.
Selection valves for the analytical columns make it possible to use the system also for the analysis of blood/serum samples after a separate liquid/liquid extraction procedure, or the determination of alcohol abuse marker (% CDT).
Detection and identification are carried out with photodiode-array detector and library search matches with UV spectra and relative retention time.
For the system application, kits are available from RECIPE (www.recipe.de).

AI and GenAI Applications to Help Optimize Purification and Yield of Antibodies From Plasma
October 31st 2024Deriving antibodies from plasma products involves several steps, typically starting from the collection of plasma and ending with the purification of the desired antibodies. These are: plasma collection; plasma pooling; fractionation; antibody purification; concentration and formulation; quality control; and packaging and storage. This process results in a purified antibody product that can be used for therapeutic purposes, diagnostic tests, or research. Each step is critical to ensure the safety, efficacy, and quality of the final product. Applications of AI/GenAI in many of these steps can significantly help in the optimization of purification and yield of the desired antibodies. Some specific use-cases are: selecting and optimizing plasma units for optimized plasma pooling; GenAI solution for enterprise search on internal knowledge portal; analysing and optimizing production batch profitability, inventory, yields; monitoring production batch key performance indicators for outlier identification; monitoring production equipment to predict maintenance events; and reducing quality control laboratory testing turnaround time.
RP-HPLC to Compare Genotoxic Impurities in Extracted and Synthetic Nicotine
November 7th 2024A recent study examined the impurity profile of thirteen different lots of synthetic nicotine and compared them to fourteen lots of nicotine extracted from plants using in-house analytical methods, with samples tested for alkaloids and phenols with reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC).
