Sciex has announced a collaboration with CW Analytical to develop fully validated standardized methods to measure pesticides and cannabinoids in cannabis and cannabis-related products.
Sciex (Massachusetts, USA) has announced a collaboration with CW Analytical (California, USA) to develop fully validated standardized methods to measure pesticides and cannabinoids in cannabis and cannabis-related products.
Demand for cannabis quality testing solutions has risen, especially within the US where some states have legalized cannabis use resulting in a budding industry. However, the rapidly emerging market is still adapting to regulations aimed at product safety and consistency, two features traditionally monitored by analytical chemistry.
As such, this new collaboration sees Sciex, a member of the AOAC Cannabis Advisory Group, provide CW Analytical with liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) expertise, instrumentation, software, and on-site technical expertise.
“LC–MS/MS represents an ideal analytical platform to address testing needs for the cannabis industry,” said Vincent Paez, Senior Director of Food, Environmental, and Forensics Testing at Sciex.
He continued, “The global cannabis testing industry does not currently have a standard method for the analysis of pesticides and cannabinoids, and together with CW Analytical, we look forward to implementing a method which can be used by all labs doing such an analysis.”
