Phenomenex (Torrance, California, USA) has announced the creation of a new company – Phenova, Inc. – the culmination of the integration and expansion of Colorado-based Wibby Environmental. Phenova provides proficiency standards and testing services to environmental laboratories working under strict regulatory guidelines. Together, Phenomenex and Phenova will aim to offer a total solution to environmental customers.

Phenomenex is investing in a 30,000-square-foot modern facility with equipment that will triple the laboratory space in Colorado to accommodate growth. Demonstrating its dedication to providing high-quality products, the company has received additional quality accreditations including ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO Guide 34.

Initially the company will serve customers in the US, but there are plans to expand internationally to meet country-specific environmental regulatory requirements.

Jason Campbell has been named president and general manager of Phenova. He said, “We have nearly doubled the company’s staff since the acquisition process began, and we have made significant investments in our analytical resources.”

Fasha Mahjoor, CEO of Phenomenex, commented: “The acquisition is part of our growth strategy, which centres on providing total solutions to the application areas we serve. This environmental product portfolio is a natural fit with Phenomenex’s offering and we serve the same customers.”

This news comes after the release at Pittcon 2012 that Waters (Milford, Massachusetts, USA) were to produce a product line of analytical standards and reagents of more than 200 pre-formulated reference materials and reagents for the scientific laboratory. Their manufacturing facility is also based in Colorado.

This news serves to highlight the importance that analytical standards and reagents are held in for the proper calibration, control, qualification and assessment of analytical or preparative LC, SFC or LC–MS systems.
