A separation based on molecular size using GPC with organic eluents was demonstrated, along with a simple sample preparation procedure. Since this GPC application uses DMF and a small amount of lithium bromide as mobile phase, it will work on a standard HPLC system without any modifications. The molecular weight ranges (Mw) of the polyacrylonitrile samples analyzed were found to be in the middle of the linear calibration range.

It always seems to be the case that time flies when you are either busy or having a good time, so as we reach this, the last day of LCGC's and Spectroscopy's coverage from ASMS 2010 from Salt Lake City, we certainly hope that time has flown for all of you. However, before everyone heads off to their next destination tomorrow, whether that be home or another industry event, there is still a great deal of science and technical material to take in.

Hopefully you were able to visit many of the technical sessions and exhibitor booths yesterday, and of course, we hope you were also able to enjoy the many festivities last night in the hospitality suites as well. If you answered "yes" to the latter, then we also hope you packed some aspirin and would recommend drinking as much water as possible this morning.

This Wednesday morning session on the important topic of fuel and oil analysis will include discussion of techniques such as desorption electrospray ionization MS, TOF and FT-ICR MS, thermal analysis coupled to GC and photoionization TOF-MS, liquid chromatography and FT-ICR MS, ion mobility MS, and electrospray ionization MS.
