In 2001 and 2005 two research vessels detected unexpectedly high air concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) off the coast of West Africa. To investigate this further a study has been conducted on air samples from all over the West African coast.

Dal Nogare award

The 2011 Dal Nogare award has been presented to Janusz Pawliszyn at Pittcon 2011.

Applicable for the determination of naphthalene, fluorene, phenanthrene, anthracene, fluoranthene, pyrene, benz[a]anthracene, chrysene, benzo[a]pyrene in seafood tissues including finfish and shellfish. The method is expected to be applicable to alkylated PAHs and related compounds in similar matrices. Limits of quantitation were shown to be < 1ng/g.
