Using GC–MS and light microscopy, researchers have investigated the dental calculus of a roman woman with coeliac disease and found she came into contact with gluten-rich cereals that would have been deleterious to her, and would likely have contributed to her premature death.

Eurofins Technologies, a provider of diagnostic technologies in the field of immunoassays and molecular detection methods, has launched GeneScan VIRSeek SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR, an integrated solution that includes RNA extraction and tests kits based on real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain-reaction (PCR) for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 in swabs of environmental surfaces.

My initial inclination was to write about something other than the current status of life, given the threats of coronavirus. However, after a month extension to the shelter-in-place was ordered by the U.S. government this past weekend, and after various e-discussions with friends and colleagues throughout the world who are experiencing similar challenges, I felt I might have something to offer to make life easier.

Katelynn A. Perrault, an assistant professor of forensic sciences and chemistry at Chaminade University of Honolulu in Hawaii the winner of the Satinder Ahuja Award for Young Investigators in Separation Science. This award, presented by the American Chemical Society’s Division of Analytical Chemistry, recognizes and encourages outstanding contributions to the field of separation science by a young chemist or chemical engineer.
